Nine Patches Square

Five colors done, and nine squares complete! 21%!

I'm almost to the cooler colors, which I am looking forward to! Only a light, bright green left before we get darker, contrasting colors. Hopefully I can update my blanket progress again in three days.

I was actually so far ahead of my blanket goals (9 squares in 8 days is pretty impressive!) that I worked on a different project. I made coasters for a few lovely ladies. Reversible and you can place your wine glass bottom inside to keep it with you as you move around the house. I particularly love the umbrella fabric.

Six Squares

The blanket is progressing quickly! I've now finished with four of my colors, and I'm starting on yellow. This time I'll be making 3 squares and they'll be going along the bottom of the current squares.

I really like the color progression so far. I'm excited to attach a few more colors and transition from warm to cool.

Four Squares, Four Days

I have now been working on my blanket for four days. I've got four squares! I'm ahead of my "schedule" of 80% of a square per day and it's a good thing because when I calculated that I totally forgot that I would need an outside border too. I think it looks lovely so far, and I am excited to be moving on to the next color. It will also be 2 squares, but after that they will start getting larger and I will have exciting updates less often.
Camera still hates red, worried about taking pictures for the contest.
There's a hole where the four corners meet up. I'm going to have to figure out the best way to close it up, because I'll have to do it for all of my squares! I'd also like to point out how the squares lay so nice and flat where they're connected to each other. I'm so glad just attaching them has made such a difference in how they look.

I better get to work on the next square! A pleasant yellow orange calls to me.

Blanket Beginnings

18 skeins
I have acquired some yarn. Of course, by "some yarn" I mean a lot of yarn because I'm makin' a blanket! I originally came up with this idea because of Knitty's Templeton Square contest. Unfortunately, it took me so long to figure out exactly what I want to do and which colors to use that I seriously doubt I'm going to be able to finish in time to submit to the contest. On the other hand, I will have a really nice blanket!

I cast on as soon as I finished fooling around with the pile of yarn. Small beginnings are going to lead to something fantastic!

Before the night was through, however, I was more than halfway done with my first square. Maybe there's hope after all?

By the next evening, I had a second square attached to the first. My camera seems to hold something against red and I could not get it properly focused, but I danced when I finished attaching the squares anyway.

I'm hoping to finish the next square today and attach it, wish me luck!

Fingerless Gloves

I made the feller a pair of fingerless gloves. Of course, he knows how to bribe me.

Berroco Ultra Alpaca in Deep Purple and Heathered Olive
That's right. Three balls of a wonderful purple to his one. The yarn was wonderful, and I made a pair of cabled fingerless gloves for him. He didn't want mitts and I didn't want to have to weave in ends for each finger, so I whacked on the fingers from Phalangees. I think they turned out wonderfully.
Pattern here.
I think they turned out wonderfully. The bribe yarn is going to end up being a scarf and hat set for myself.

I'm back!

I've been away for a while. Silly me. I got distracted by NaNoWriMo in November, which I finished! WOO! Then I was doing a few things for Christmas, and couldn't really share the pictures in case someone's gift was spoiled. I'll get back in the swing of things, and for now I'll just leave a picture of the last few things I made in 2012. A commissioned set of 3 headbands for my niece's friends. I think they turned out wonderfully.
